There are several artists out there who are working to create illusions on public sidewalks. If you look carefully at the drawings, you can see the actual concrete lines in the sidewalk. However, the drawings are so well done that they appear to be real!

Thanks Tyler for showing me these drawings so that I an put them on ArtMadness!

For those of you who are interested in a career in art, how about designing and creating signs and tags for companies? American Signs in Los Angeles, CA creates unique signs for stores and businesses, while even designing for movie openings and big names in music like Shakira and Rascal Flatts. Check out their website and take a close look at the Gallery section. If you like what you see, follow the Materials link to discover what the signs are made of and how they are created.

I would also like to mention that the website design is fantastic! The only thing I don’t like is that the images are locked and I can’t tease you with one here…

Manipulated wire fencing

Manipulated wire fencing

Here’s an interesting way to create art. The Dutch design house Demakersvan has created beautiful art out of something that is usually so dull and, often, ugly! Using an industrial material like wire fencing can create a subtle and delicate design. It’s called Lace Fence and I love it, but I can’t imagine how difficult this must be to create.

Congratulations to the students from Sherburne-Earlville who had their artwork on display at the annual Colorscape Festival of the Arts in Norwich, NY this past weekend. There were dozens of entries from our students and you all should be very proud! However, I will take a moment and specifically praise the work of Bridget Irwin who won First Place and Caleb Gager who on Second Place, both in the Sculpture category. Also, Brian Johnson, a Senior this year at SE, won First Place for Drawing! Way to go! Check out their great artwork…

Video Art

Here’s something completely different! This artist uses paint and chalk (I think) to create a moving cartoon drawn on the sidewalk and buildings of a city street. What is interesting is that the drawings become a movie because the artist takes one photo of the drawing, erases a bit, re-draws and re-shoots. If you combine hundreds of these images together and speed them up back-to-back, you can create a movie! This is how movies you see in the theater are actually shown.

For those of you reading this from SE, you will not be able to view this at school, but check it out at home! Thanks to the artists, BLU, for the free use of their work.
